3 Month Suspension for Phelps – But What if He Was Black?

Posted by JB

Michael Phelps

The whole Michael Phelps disaster showing him in the news smoking a marijuana bong at a party is simply ridiculous. The opportunity he squandered is, not only one of the dumbest moves in history, but will set him in the Biggest Embarrassments Hall of Fame. in 2004 at the age of 19, the Olympic gold medalist was stopped for a DUI and sentenced to 18 months probation. He was doing all kinds of public service announcements to make up for that one.

My question to you is this (you already know what I’m going to say), if he were black do you think that he would receive the same slap on the wrist? He’s a major role model who has numerous endorsements with Speedo, Omega, Visa, PureSport, Mazda and Hilton Hotels who have all vowed to stand by him. But Kellogg says they’re not renewing his contract and Subway, which signed Phelps to a long-term contract are straddling the fence.

If you can recall some legal acts of kindness against our athletes, please refresh my memory. But, for right now, I’m thinking of LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant. What if these guys would’ve been guilty of the exact same offenses. And you saw what they did for Kobe Bryant over sex. What if a drug binge would’ve been a part of the story? Read here to see the “symbolic punishment.”

Top 5 Fox News Uncle Toms

Top 5 Fox News Uncle Toms

Full article at link below

1. Juan Williams.
Despite the fact that Williams cried after Obama’s election he has returned to his sell out ways. He called Michelle Obama Stokely Carmichael in a designer dress and has done nothing to speak up against Fox’s racism.

2. Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson
Jesse Lee Peterson is the walking embodiment of the Boondocks Uncle Ruckus. He is constantly used by O’Reilly and Hannity to expose black self hate on the TV. He did not give any credit to Barack Obama for winning the election and credited his victory to “racist blacks and guilty whites,” saying that 95% of all blacks are racist.

3. Larry Elder
Larry Elder originally supported Obama before learning about Reverend Wright. He was recently on Fox News defending Rush Limbaugh and his racist song Barack The Magic Negro. Elder is a regular commentator on Fox News but is only used to attack Barack Obama and defend right wing racism.

4. Angela McGlowan
When the bigots at Fox news need to attack on a black woman they call on Angela. Angela attacked Michelle Obama on the Bill O’Reilly comparing her to gangster rappers. She neglected to make any comments about O’Reilly’s claim that he isn’t bringing out the lynch mob on Michelle Obama.
“in our community, a lot of folks believe that America is against them. The gangster rappers, the whole nine yards. And Michelle Obama was preying on that, saying in essence, this is the first time she’s ever been proud of a country that’s given her so much opportunity”

5. Erick Rush
Rush came into prominence by attacking Barack Obama on his connections to Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Trinity Baptist Church. He encouraged the GOP to play the race card on Obama, criticized his ties with Ludacris and called him a scary guy all while ignoring Fox News’ racism and the GOP’s ties to Limbaugh. He also recently wrote a book encouraging an American invasion of Mexico, “Annexing Mexico: Solving the Border Problem Through Annexation and Assimilation”

New York Expects More Federal Housing Aid to Help Fix
 Elevators

By MANNY FERNANDEZ

New York City’s strapped public housing agency is expected to receive at least $57 million more in federal aid for capital improvement projects than it received last year, and it plans to use part of that money to overhaul its problematic elevator fleet.

The agency, the New York City Housing Authority, is expected to receive at least $390 million out of the $5 billion in capital financing set aside for public housing in the economic stimulus package that was being negotiated in the Senate on Thursday. The final number had yet to be determined on Thursday night, said Senator Charles E. Schumer, who pushed for the money to be used for the elevator repairs.CLICK FOR FULL ARTICLE…[NYT]

PASSING STRANGE

A Gilded Age Tale of Love and Deception Across the Color Line

By Martha A. Sandweiss

Illustrated. 370 pages. The Penguin Press. $27.95.

“Passing Strange” tells an astounding true story that would beggar most novelists’ imaginations. It exposes the bizarre secret life of a well-known historical figure, but that secret is its least sensational aspect. The secret was hidden in plain sight until Martha A. Sandweiss, the deductive historian who pieced together this narrative, happened to notice it. Her great accomplishment is to have explored not only how the 19th-century explorer and scientist Clarence King reinvented himself but also why that reinvention was so singularly American. Best of all are Ms. Sandweiss’s insights into what King’s deception and its consequences really mean.

SC RACIST SAYS SORRY TO POL FOR ‘61 ASSAULT LEWIS

AP

February 6, 2009 –

WASHINGTON – Elwin Wilson was an unabashed racist, the sort who once hung a black doll from a noose outside his home. John Lewis was a young civil-rights leader bent on changing laws, if not hearts and minds, even if it cost him his life.

They faced each other at a South Carolina bus station during a protest in 1961. Wilson joined a white gang that jeered Lewis, attacked him and left him bloodied on the ground.

Forty-eight years later, they met again – this time so Wilson could apologize to Lewis and express regret. Lewis, now a congressman from Atlanta, greeted his former tormentor at his Capitol Hill office.

“I just told him that I was sorry,” Wilson, 72, said as he traveled home to Rock Hill, SC. For years, he said, he tried to block out the incident “and couldn’t do it.”

Lewis said Wilson is the first person involved in the dozens of attacks against him during the civil-rights era to step forward and apologize. When they met Tuesday, Lewis offered forgiveness without hesitation.

“I was very moved,” Lewis said. “He was very, very sincere, and I think it takes a lot of raw courage to be willing to come forward the way he did . . . I think it will lead to a great deal of healing.”

Wilson said he had felt an urge to voice his remorse for years. He talked about his past a few weeks ago with a friend, and the friend asked him where he thought he might go if he died.

“I said, ‘Probably hell,’ ” Wilson said. “He said, ‘Well, you don’t have to.’ “

Lewis and Wilson said they hoped Wilson’s quest for redemption will inspire others who took part in civil rights-era violence to come forward and help heal wounds from the struggle over integration.

“I said if just one person comes forward and gets the hate out of their heart, it’s all worth it,” Wilson said.

Violence and Abuse at City-Run Psychiatric Unit

Violence and Abuse at City-Run Psychiatric Unit

By ANEMONA HARTOCOLLIS

The federal government has documented a pattern of sexual and other violent assaults among patients at the psychiatric unit of a city-run Brooklyn hospital where a woman died in June on the floor of the emergency waiting room while staff members ignored her.

After a yearlong investigation, the Department of Justice portrayed the unit at Kings County Hospital Center as a nightmarish place where patients were not treated for suicidal behavior, were routinely subdued with physical restraints and drugs instead of receiving individualized psychiatric treatment, and were frequently abused by other patients.

The details are laid out in a 58-page report to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg that was made public on Thursday.CLICK HERE FOR MORE … [NYT]
