clipped from www.nytimes.com Strangers on His Street Robert Wright for The New York Times By NELSON GEORGE ON a recent unusually mild Saturday, I strolled around Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and, perhaps because of my respectable salt-and-pepper goatee, several folks asked me for directions. An affable white couple on bikes wanted to know how to get to Williamsburg; a young hipster asked me which way to the Alibi Club, the Pratt Institute hangout. I got a burger at a new spot on Lafayette Avenue and contemplated the passing parade. I’ve been gentrified, and while I’m not as mad as hell, I’m not entirely comfortable as an artsy, graying black man of 51 when I walk the streets of the neighborhood where I’ve lived half my life. My friends and I used to joke that the presence of these crack dealers on select corners “protected” us from real estate speculators and home-hungry Manhattanites.

BACHATA CLASS

DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for those who have never danced before or danced very little.

 BACHATA is a romantic style of dance from the Dominican Republic.

This is a popular partner dance is sexy, playful and surprisingly easy. In general it has reached a lot more popularity in recent years. More nightclubs are playing it, and therefore, more people are learning it. You will learn the following: the basic step pattern, giving and receiving turns, proper body positioning and hands, footwork styling options, several turn combinations, hip isolations, music theory.
