NYPD’s Fatal Shooting of Knife-Wielding Woman Investigated
|
Yesterday’s shooting by NYPD officers of a woman who was repeatedly stabbing a cop with a 12-inch knife could have been prevented if a Taser could have been used at the scene of the incident. But the dangerous conditions of the woman’s Canarsie apartment that police entered into wouldn’t allow it. |
The landlord of the building called 911 after smelling gas coming from inside 48-year-old Ginette Denize’s apartment and not getting any response from her. Police and firefighters then entered the apartment to discover all four burners on the unlit stove emitting gas, a setup that could have caused the building to blow up if a stun gun was used. |

“all four burners on the unlit stove emitting gas, a setup that could have caused the building to blow up if a stun gun was used.” This is true if NYPD carried Stun Guns, but they are issued Tasers which have no electrical spark or arc.
But is was OK to fire their weapon in a gas filled room. What about the muzzle flash could have set off an explosion. The police story makes no sense.

Whoa … you say “taser does not issue a spark or an electrical arc”!
Where did you get that absolute bit of nonsense?
Taser can only discharge by creating a electrical arc (and spark), it’s why they use 50,000 volts to assure that there is a flow of electrons between the positive and negative terminal …. you would have blown up the apartment if anyone listened to you about the flow of electrons between two points not making a “spark”.
Do not spread such misinformation …. Please.

You seem to be referring to the Stun Gun which have the negative & Positive poles, which does produce an electrical arc. A Taser is a self contained unit that fires wired probes that imbed in the body before the shock is given by the Officer.
I guess the muzzle blast from a fired round in a “gas filled” room would not cause an explosion and was the correct thing to do..
