Who knew?

April 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Who knew? There is all kinds of stuff going on that we don’t hear about. I GUESS that they’re pretending that it’s not unusual that it would be a Black admiral, but we know that even now, it’s information that should be shared.

MAERSK-ALABAMA CAPTAIN RESCUED BY REAR ADM. MICHELLE HOWARD’S SHIP Whoa! Nope, this is one you SURE DIDN’T HEAR on the news. The ship that rescued the Maersk-Alabama’s captain was skippered by a BLACK FEMALE REAR ADMIRAL? Get OUT of here! If you’re like me, you briefly saw her in some news clips, and (like me) probably figured she was some medical tech. You GO, girl! On the other hand, in an ideal world, no this SHOULDN’T BE “news.” Anymore than that it should be “news” that we have female B-52 pilots or black admirals, or (say) a black President.

One Year After Acquittal in Sean Bell Shooting, Lives Remain in Limbo

Detectives Marc Cooper, at left, facing front; Gescard F. Isnora, center; and Michael Oliver, right, on April 25, 2008, the day they were acquitted.

A year ago Saturday, a judge acquitted three New York City detectives in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell. Yet those on all sides of the case, which still touches off an emotional debate over the police use of deadly force, are exactly where they were last April 25: in limbo.

The officers involved in the shooting, in which 50 bullets were fired at Mr. Bell’s car after the police said he rammed into plainclothes officers, still arrive each day for “modified assignment” — the Police Department’s glorified name for desk duty — and receive a paycheck for administrative tasks.

There is fan mail to City Hall on the subject of term limits. And opposition mail, too. And mail not seen.
